Issues adding gmail to outlook
Yesterday I set up my work.domain email address in the outlook mobile app (worked w/o a hitch). Previously I was using the gmail app to read both my personal gmail mail as well as my work.domain email (Zimbra). This week my employer switched over to Office 365 for email. I am wondering how people who experienced this problem in the past have made out. It also does not appear related to a custom label in gmail either.
Inasmuch as I had to resurrect a 4 month old thread, I can state this problem still exists today and does not appear to be related to a gmail account somehow being linked to a microsoft account. This was found thanks to a user on MS Support forum. Uncheck all your custom labels in Gmail settings, then set up Outlook Mobile again - and it will work. SOLUTION: the reasons for this seems to be on how Outlook Mobile treats Gmail labels. This bug was discussed with MS Support level 1 and level 2 - and was acknowledged as a bug.As of now - its not solved. Learning: if you used your gmail address as a primary mail on your MS account - do not remove/delete it, as it will bring you sync issues (of mail only) on Outlook Mobile.This account will sync perfectly in Outlook Mobile including gmail. Outlook Mobile offers to connect with your Google account - and will sync your Calendar, Contacts, access your Google Drive, but will not sync your gmail.To proove that the issue is only linked with specific gmail account - you can try to add one more "clean" Gmail account in Outlook Mobile (not used on MS account before).

How is this manifesting?You install Outlook Mobile (Android, iOS - same behaviour), and you want sync your full Google account.This deletion of gmail email address from your MS account results in putting special flag on the MS server, and prevents syncing that gmail if you want to use Outlook Mobile.
(Note: you still plan to keep that gmail, but you just removed it from MS account).
